Description

For your consideration is this Fabulous Rare highly Enameled Cased Glass Brides Basket made by Mt. Washington or by Thomas Webb. Basket dates back to the early years of Meriden Britannia Company and has the mark from this period 1852 to 1887. The bowl is of exceptional quality and workmanship. The glass work is fine and uncommon with a beautiful ribbed geometric pattern decorating the ruffled edges which are deep reddish pink muting to a softer pink as it works its way toward the interior. Further into the interior of the bowl you can see another pattern of bead like glass decorating the golden yellow area of the bowl. These beads are actually raised from the reverse side of the bowl to outline the ruffled edge design. From there the yellow becomes gradually softer to the center which is the lightest. The interior of the bowl is beautifully and quite tastefully enameled with blue and white, pink and white and orange flowers and leaves. The bowl measures 11 3/4" in diameter is 3 1/2" tall and on its base stands 8 1/2" tall. The base was made by Meriden Britannia Co. and is silver-plate. It has a lovely ribbon and ball design decorating the top rim and a secondary lower rim on the column which is also decorated with similar edge work. The gradually widening base give the basket a wonderful secure base to rest on. The Brides Bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, nips, cracks, loss of enameling or repairs! The base has not been cleaned and shows signs of silver loss, there are no dents or bent or damaged areas. The base measures 5 3/4" tall and 5 3/4" wide. An exceptional Victorian Brides Basket in beautiful condition for the discerning collector.
