Description
We are offering for your consideration a very fine, silver plated, Victorian, Sweet Meat Basket manufactured by the Meriden Silver Plate Company organized in Meriden, Connecticut in 1869. It was one of the first companies to become part of the International Silver Company in 1898. The piece measures 4.25 inches tall and 5.50 wide and has a satin finish. It is noted on the bottom as, “Quadruple Plate” and is early pattern number, “1459.” The top rim is decorated in a pie crust design and the handle resembles a bamboo stem. The main body of the basket is decorated in what looks like the design in a peacock feather. At the ends of either side of the handle is a figure of the head of a wolf. The piece is inEXCELLENT READY TO USE ESTATE CONDITION.
There is no silver wear, dents, flaking or repairs. A charming, Victorian piece to set at the dining table filled with sugar or sugar cubes to pass around with coffee or tea or after dinner mints, etc. Put in a spoon to serve and you’ve added an elegant little touch to your table.
