BLACK AMERICANA: QUADRUPLE PLATE BASKET: BY COLORED STUDENTS - MARCH 1820

ENGRAVED "BY COLORED STUDENTS" QUADRUPLE PLATE FRUIT BOWL BY PAIRPOINT, BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTES: Unusual fruit bowl presentation gift by Pairpoint Mfg Co, New Bedford, Mass.  Engraved, "By Colored Students, March 1820- March 1894." Pairpoint Mfg Co was founded in 1880 and merged with Washington Glass in 1894.  This basket was made the year of the merger.  Pairpoint is famous for their quadruple plate silverwork.
Basket is 11 1/2" x 9 1/4" and 8" high (including handle). Basket is pressed in the center with three apples, six leaves on two short branches. Handle is ribboned with apples, leaves and vines (see photograph).
Finish has not been polished.  Will let buyer clean.
