ANTIQUE SILVERPLATE BRIDAL BASKET ATKIN BROS. ENGLAND C1900 ORNATE REPOUSSÉ EXC

Description

Stunning Antique Silverplate Bridal Basket by Atkin Bros. of England c1900 (approximate) in an ornate repoussé style which is in very good condition with no silver loss, discoloration, dents or undue scratching.  There are a couple of very tiny spots in center of basket which might very well completely disappear with a little more buffing - they are very hard to see now.  This is an unusual design with an ornate scalloped edge and repoussé floral and fruit design panels alternating with plain panels.  The handle swivels and is scalloped and has an incised floral pattern.  The handle swivels are in perfect condition.  It has a footed base (see photos).  The basket measures about 8 1/4 inches when handle is raised and is about 3 inches in height at top of basket rim.  The diameter of basket is 10 1/2 inches - it's a very good size - perfect for table centerpiece.  Atkin Bros. was a well known English silver company founded in Sheffield England in 1750 by Thomas Law.  Henry Atkin took over the company in 1829 and at his death in 1853 his sons, Harry, Edward and Frank Atkin continued the trade until 1925.  At that time the heirs became Atkin Bros Ltd. until 1958 when they were acquired by another company and finally disbanded.  Atkin Bros made both sterling and silverplate of very high quality and design.  The bottom of the piece is clearly marked with the Atkin Bros. mark used after 1853 which is a hand holding 3 feathered plumes and the initials "HA" "EA" and "FA" for Harry, Edward and Frank Atkin along with the mark EPNS.  I hand polish and buff all my silver with a fine European polishing cream so it has a beautiful shiny silver patina and there are no "surprises" under tarnish.  Your silver arrives clean and ready to use.  I have collected antique and vintage silver and silver plate for almost 50 years and have a large collection; however I am in the process of downsizing so am selling some of my pieces.  This particular basket is a very unique and lovely piece and I've priced very reasonably.
