Today we're offering a beautiful, antique, "Brides Basket", circa late 1800's. Brides baskets were very popular throughout the Victorian and Edwardian era and were typically used to hold the bridal bouquet after the wedding or cards with gifts and served as beautiful, showy table centerpieces. Today they can be used in a variety of ways in our homes or just to enjoy on their own as eye candy.
Many silver companies produced the exquisite baskets or framework which held the glass basket. This one was made my the Wilcox Silver Plate Co. and is #5523 as marked on the bottom of it's feet. The frame stands 11" high.
The frilly bowl is so beautiful - we believe it was made by the Mt. Washington Glass Works the late 1800's. It's a type of glass known as Mother-of-Pearl Satin glass. This one has a diamond quilt pattern and is rimmed with blue.
The condition of both pieces is very good with only tiny fleabite chips on the bottom of the bowl's foot. There are areas on the exterior of the bowl where some of the silver has rubbed off onto it as you can see in the pictures. We have not tried to remove it. The silver frame is in good condition and features two squirrels on either side of the handle. The patina is lovely and we have not polished it.
This is one of two baskets we are offering today so be sure to see our other listings!
