    Description

    This is rare AND OF MUSEUM QUALITY: a table center fruit or desert pedestal basket signed with the Kayser impressed mark and with the pattern number 8359.  It is pedestal footed, has a swing handle and has its original hand blown and hand cut crystal liner. It has finely detailed repoussé 3 dimensional leaves and fruit separately applied around the basket. Each of these leaves and fruit are doubled one inside one outside so that they look 3 dimensional. These repousse fruit and leaves test for about 800 silver. The silver composition is not marked although rest of the basket it appears to be mainly silver plate.
    The Hallmark has the eagle with the word Kayser beneath.  From the design, it may have been made in the workshop of Engelbert Kayser in Cologne Germany between the years 1880 and 1910. Engelbert, an artist  was part of the famous J P Kayser Sohn of Cologne, Germany. He formed a special atelier in the late 1800s to bring the company into the "new age" of design. Engelbert hired well known German artists to design and make special artistic pieces. His work spanned the Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Romantic periods. The materials most often used were 800 fine silver; silverplate and/or kayserzinn metal (which is a combination of silver and tin). This "new age artistic" work won gold medals for the company at many world exhibitions. Engelbert Kayser died in 1911. His work in now sought after by collectors around the world. Here is offered a rare example of the exquisite workmanship that would grace any home or collection.
    Condition: Immaculate -NO flaws! This piece is clean, all original and in perfect condition. (The basket has no breaks, no repairs, no noticeable scratches. The crystal liner is in immaculate condition.
    Size: Height is 10" to top of handle, 5" to top of basket liner. The basket is 10" at its length and 8" at its width in oval diameter, and 4 1/2" by 4" at its oval base. It weighs about 3 lbs. (1400gms)
