    Description

The engraving of the scene depicting the Fox and the Crane is outstanding.  Please enlarge the first photo.  The fox is on the right and has turned his head toward the crane, whose beak is inside the tall jar between them. They stand under crossed leafy boughs.  Look at the detail in the crane's feathers and the fur of the fox!  And the detail on the beakers on the table!
Stamped on the reverse: "Derby Silver Co Quadruple plate 1130."  That's Derby, CT.  The company closed its doors in 1939 after sixty-one years in business. Perhaps a victim of the Great Depression.
I removed just enough tarnish to make the characters visible. Didn't want to remove the oxidation which gives depth to the scene details and the repoussé work on the outer bowl.
    The ribbon handle is charming.
