1870s Aesthetic Victorian Rogers Smith & Co. Silver Plate Brides Cake Basket

Offered here is a lovely antique Aesthetic early Victorian era quadruple plate cake basket. It is ornately chased on the inside with butterflies and flowers. The border has trellising ivy leaves. This basket measures 10" in diameter and stands 7" in height not including the fold down handle which would give a total height of 13". This basket dates to the 1870s and is in very good condition for age.
I lightly hand polished the inside to show the Butterflies. There is a tiny bit of silver loss but nothing major. I will leave the rest of the polishing to the new owner as many prefer the darkened patina. There are no repairs, dings or dents. The basket weighs 2 pounds before packing.
The basket is marked inside the pedestal foot for. Rogers, Smith & Co. Meriden Ct. Quadruple.

Organized in 1857 by William Rogers Sr. and George W. Smith. The firm was merged in 1861 with Rogers Brothers Mfg Co under the presidency of William Rogers. The tools and the dies were bought in 1862 by Meriden Britannia Co transferring to Meriden the production of the 1847 Rogers Bros line under the direction of William Rogers. In 1863 Meriden Britannia Co bought the hollowware division. In 1865 the plating shop was transferred from New Haven to Meriden and merged with Meriden Britannia Co in 1866. Rogers, Smith & Co ceased to exist as a separate firm and was used as a trademark of Meriden Britannia Co when the International Silver Co was formed in 1898
